Hard Rain

Hard Rain — the downpour.

A striped shirt in Indian Oxford, yarn-dyed on the loom. Narrow indigo stripes set close together on a warm off-white ground, running straight down the shirt. A stripe is rain, and rain falls, so it never runs across.

The Oxford basketweave gives the cloth a fine pebbled surface and enough body to hold a collar. Soft point collar, clean placket, single-button cuffs, curved hem. Tonal cream buttons. The Matsya fish is stitched small at the left chest in deep indigo thread.

The cloth — 100% cotton Oxford. Two-ply 40s yarn in the warp and 30s in the weft (40×2/30), TFO-twisted for strength and a faint sheen, woven 110 × 50 threads to the inch, so it stays tight and holds its shape.

Sewn at 15 to 17 stitches to the inch. Inside, a high-pick damask label with ultrasonically sealed edges that do not fray, and a soft 100% cotton care label. More on the cloth.
