Shoal — one fish among many.

A deep indigo handloom cotton, woven in the jamdani tradition, scattered with small pale fish. Each one is laid in by hand on the loom with a supplementary weft, so it sits slightly raised and slightly soft at the edges — part of the cloth rather than printed on it. No two are quite alike.

They are spaced wide and read quietly from across a room. Up close there is a shoal moving through dark water, and one larger fish stitched at the chest.

Soft point collar, clean placket, single-button cuffs, curved hem. Tonal indigo buttons. Handloom weaving is slow, and this shirt is made in small numbers because of it.
